I think 12 sides is probably a practical limit without using much larger paper; this 6x6inch piece of kami was really pushing the structural ability of the paper itself.

Octagonal star shape Originally uploaded by Origomi. I was fiddling around with n-gon shaped star patterns, and came up with this. not sure where to take it, but it’s an easily reproducible starting shape that has full octagonal symmetry. and it looks neat!
